Professional Objectives:
Objective I: To learn strategies, techniques, and methods for organizing and starting up camps run through the URI women’s basketball team- how to get started
Activities & Recourses:

Work/discuss with assistant coach the beginning phases during the length of my internship (camps held over the summer)

Take part in brainstorming schools to contact and how to contact them

Attend all meetings held about camp preparation
Evidence:

Include notes and a combined narrative of what I learned of the process

Include work samples (notes, draft flyers/emails, roster of potential schools put together as a contact form)
Objective II: Learn ways to get the community involved with the team and understand how to keep those relationships intact for future support.
Activities & Recourses:

Work with our director of basketball operations on community service projects – discuss how the process happened in past services

Participate in the brainstorming - initiate/develop project ideas

Take part in helping run community events
Evidence:

Work samples from planning, organizing, and from any scheduled events during my time as intern

Samples/ brainstorm ideas of events & projects that may go into effect for the future

Include a narrative in my portfolio explaining key concepts I learned of the process
Objective III: Learn the techniques, strategies, and methods of how to create and put together a pre-game scouting report
Activities & Resources

Attend all pre-game meetings/ take notes on coaches scouts

Take part in creating my own “practice scout

Watch film and analyze it

Turn in a mock report to assistant coach

Work with assistant coach to critique and compare my scout to the complete coach made scout

Objective IV: To learn and understand the X’s and O’s of coaching the game of basketball/ learn to read defenses and call plays on offense

Constantly ask questions about coaching adjustments/ play calls

Research on my own offensive and defensive sets and philosophies

Participate in meetings discussing drills for the offense and defense

Internship Details:
Internship duties:
Liaison for community service projects for families and youth; Program representative for game day events. Assist with summer and vacation period basketball camp coordination; Assist coaching staff in opponent scouting, assist with skill development, practice preparation and execution, and assist in preparation for team meetings and function.
Internship Evaluation Methods:
Weekly progress check-ins, check-ins during daily staff meetings
Internship work days/hours:
M-F: 11-4pm
*Hours dependent on current basketball season schedule. Off days, weekend hours in the office are dependent on schedule as well
